“There are now less than three months until the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, and the visit of the official Trophy, as well as FIFA representatives including Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer to our shores will be another milestone in the build up to the tournament,” Gallop said.

FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, Sarai Bareman, will be part of FIFA’s delegation accompanying the Trophy to Sydney.

“I am so pleased we are able to bring the Women’s World Cup Trophy to Australia ahead of what is going to be the biggest Women’s World Cup in history,” Bareman said.

“The Matildas are among 24 countries that will compete in France this summer and I know from following the team over the last few years that there is a real buzz around women’s football in the country thanks to their performances and the continued growth of the domestic W-League.

“I can’t wait to see fans at the event on what is sure to be a very special day for women’s football in Australia.”

The official FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy is currently on a two-month global journey that began in Paris in February, and which will conclude in the same city in May.

Already the Trophy has visited France, Jamaica, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, United States of America, Korea Republic, Japan, and China. Today it is in Thailand.

Destination New South Wales has helped Football Federation Australia (FFA) in preparing for the event at Circular Quay.

Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Chipchase, said: “We are delighted FIFA has brought the Women’s World Cup Trophy to Sydney.

“This event will reinforce our state’s reputation as a first-class destination for major sporting events and as an eminent champion of women’s sport.

“I would strongly encourage all football fans to head down to the beautiful shores of Sydney Harbour this Sunday to snap a photo with this magnificent trophy.”
