Emily van Egmond returns to the Newcastle Jets

Emily van Egmond returns to her hometown club Newcastle Jets on a short-term contract for the upcoming Liberty A-League season.

The midfielder joins Ash Wilson's side on a short-term contract, with the Asian Cup just on the horizon, match minutes will help Van Egmond maintain her form in the lead up to the competition kicking off in January 2022 in India.

Van Egmond returns to her hometown club after time in the WSL in England and in the NWSL in the USA, the midfielder last played for the Jets in the 2017/18 season when she lead Newcastle to the semi-finals.

Emily van Egmond bagged a brace in Newcastle's big win over Canberra.

The midfielder last played in the Liberty A-League Women's competition back in the 2019/20 season for Melbourne City. Van Egmond and a star-studded side of fellow Matildas beat Sydney FC in the grand final 1-0.

Since then Emily has enjoyed time overseas, playing with West Ham United in the WSL, before returning to Orlando Pride to see out their NWSL season.

Coach Ash Wilson is excited to have Van Egmond back in her side “Emily is a world-class player and Newcastle is her home so to be able to have her put on the Jets jersey again is exciting for the community and the Club,” Wilson told newcastlejetsfc.com.au

“Emily has already been training with us, preparing for her US matches and the lessons being learned from younger, less experienced players around training ethic and attitude have already been invaluable.

“I’m excited to see her back in gold playing a positive, attacking brand of football, and I know she is motivated to contribute to a successful campaign for this community.”

Van Egmond will be available for the Jets this Friday night for their game against Wellington Phoenix as part of a Double Header at McDonald Jones Stadium.
