Draw procedures for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024

The Draw for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024, scheduled to be held in Paris, France, on the 21st of March (6am AEDT), will determine how the 12 qualified teams will be divided into three groups of four teams each for the final competition.

The 12 qualified teams will be allocated to four pots of three teams each, based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking to be released on 15 March 2024.

The two top-ranked teams, along with the host country, France, will be allocated to Team Pot 1; the teams ranked 3 to 5 will be allocated to Team Pot 2; the teams ranked 6 to 8 will be allocated to Team Pot 3; and finally, team pot 4 will include the teams ranked 9 to 11.

At the time of the draw, the relevant CAF qualifying tournament will not have concluded. The two CAF slots will therefore be positioned as placeholders named “CAF 1” and “CAF 2” and will be allocated to the two highest-ranked CAF teams in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking amongst the teams that still have a chance of qualifying.

FIFA’s general principle is to ensure, whenever possible, that no group has more than one team from the same confederation drawn into it.

This will mean Australia will not be able to be drawn against their fellow AFC counterpart, Japan from Pot 2. Germany would also have to be drawn against the USA in Pot 1, given the other two teams in the pot are UEFA teams.

The draw will take place in Paris on Thursday the 21st of March at 6:00am AEDT, and be streamed live and free via FIFA+
