WHAT-S MAKING THE NEWS

FORLAN INJURED

Key Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan is likely to miss the two games against Australia, says his Spanish club Villarreal.

The former Manchester United marksman was injured in Villarreal-s Champions League clash against Benfica and confirmed that he had torn a muscle in his leg and is likely to be sidelined for about three weeks, which would rule him out of the two games.

Since arriving in Spain, Forlan has become one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe and his loss would be a blow to Uruguay, although they still have a lot of firepower.

Forlan will still travel to Uruguay to be assessed by the national team doctors and if ruled out will return to Villarreal to continue his rehabilitation.

REFEREE CHANGE???

AAP reports that a leading Uruguayan newspaper El Telegrafo has said that FIFA will change the referees for the second leg in Sydney, from the Belgian officials originally to take charge of the game to a trio from Spain.

Uruguay coach Jorge Fossati was critical of the choice of officials, saying the officials were neighbours of Australian coach Guus Hiddink and that his side was at a disadvantage.
