Clare Polkinghorne moves to Kristianstads DFF in Sweden

CommBank Matildas' most-capped player, defender Clare Polkinghorne, has made the move to Kristianstads DFF in Sweden, leaving Vittsjö GIK.

Polkinghorne joins the likes of Amy Sayer already representing the Kristianstads, with the Aussie finishing her three-season stint with Vittsjö GIK.

The defender signed for Vittsjö GIK in Sweden for the 2021 season, making 56 appearances for the side and scoring 7 goals in her stint in Sweden.

"I'm really excited about challenging myself at a new club. KDFF is a club that has always had high ambition and is always competitive. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of the club and I can't wait to get started" Polkinghorne said to kdff.nu.

"It feels really good that even this piece of the puzzle came into place in good time before the start of the season at the beginning of January." KDFF club manager Lovisa Ström said to kdff.nu.

"In Clare, we get a very serious and ambitious individual and a player who, with great routine and good physique, will contribute to making our team better - both defensively and offensively," Ström continued

Kristianstads DFF finished last Damallsvenskan season in sixth place, just one place and one point below Polkinghorne's former team Vittsjö GIK. The side will be hoping for a top-three finish for the upcoming season and thus qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
