The cities and stadia staging the Westfield Matildas at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup draw done and dusted, it’s time for the Westfield Matildas and fans alike to plan their logistics for 2019.

Australia’s group games will be staged in three different cities — Valenciennes, Montepellier and Grenoble - seeing the team play their first game in northern France, before heading south for the final two Group C fixtures. 

The Westfield Matildas were drawn alongside Italy, Brazil and Jamaica.

Australia v Italy

When: June 9, 2019 - 1pm Local Time, 9pm AEDT

Where: Stade du Hainaut, Valenciennes

Capacity: 25,000

Stadium Info: The Stade du Hainaut opened in 2011 and cost €75 million to construct. Montpellier, the team that play in Ligue 1, won the men’s league in 2011/12 Season.

City Info: Valenciennes is located on the Scheldt, a river that runs through parts of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The town’s population is approximately 40,000 and its metro population is just shy of 400,000 people.

Australia v Brazil

When: June 13, 2019 - 6pm Local Time, 2am AEDT (June 14)

Where: Stade de la Mosson, Montpellier

Capacity: 32,900

Stadium Info: The venue has experience in hosting international tournaments, having been used during the 1998 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2007 Rugby World Cup. The Stadium was built in 1972 and underwent renovations in 1997.

City Info: Montpellier has a population of 275,000 inhabitants and is France’s eighth largest city. Interestingly, in the 12th Century, the city was the trading centre of France.

Australia v Jamaica

When: June 18, 2019 - 9pm Local Time, 5am AEDT (June 19)

Where: Stade des Alpes, Grenoble

Capacity: 20,000

Stadium Info: The Stade des Alpes cost € 88 million and was complete in 2008. It houses Grenoble Foot 38 and also a rugby team, FC Grenoble. 

City Info: The city has a population of 163,000 and is located in France’s south-east at the foot of the French Alps.
