The Caitlin Foord show: The last time the Westfield Matildas played Chile

Australian football fans, it’s time to get excited. The Westfield Matildas will play two matches on home soil in November.

In their first fixtures since this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, Ante Milicic’s side will host South American outfit Chile in clashes in Sydney and Adelaide.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Westfield Matildas to play Chile in two-match series in November

The first match will be played at Parramatta’s Bankwest Stadium on Saturday, November 9, followed by a second clash in Adelaide at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday, November 12.

It comes almost a year to the day since the two nation’s last squared-off in a two-game friendly series Down Under.

It was the visitors who will remember fondly the first of those clashes as La Roja Femenina came from behind to register a 3-2 win at Panthers Stadium in Penrith.

Australia made the ideal start as Emily van Egmond converted a ninth-minute penalty before Chile hit-back with goals from Francisca Lara and Carla Guerrero.

Despite a stack of pressure from the home side, Yessenia Huenteo scored late to make it 3-1 as another van Egmond penalty in stoppage time came too late to prevent the Westfield Matildas' first loss in Australia since 2014.
