Blue Sunday for Golden Sam Kerr

Sam Kerr and her Chelsea team mates wrapped up a second consecutive FA WSL title with a 5-0 win over Reading.

With Manchester City only two points behind, the title race came down to the final day. Emma Hayes' side knew a win would keep the trophy at Kingsmeadow. As they have all season, Chelsea were clinical in front of goal and solid defensively.

Melanie Leupolz opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game for the Blues. Kerr and Fran Kirby were then at their devastating best, combining for the next three goals.

The Westfield Matildas' captain set up Kirby twice with some neat interplay and cracking finishes. The English international then returned the favour for Kerr, playing a looping ball over the defence which was met by the Australian on the volley to score Chelsea's fourth.

The goal was the Australian's 21st of the season, ensuring she locked up the Golden Boot, finishing three head of Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema.

In addition to her 21 goals, Kerr provided eight assists, having a direct hand in over 40% of Chelsea's goals this season. The 27-year-old has now won the Golden Boot in Australia, the USA, and England.

Erin Cuthbert's 75th minute goal added a fifth to Chelsea's tally and provided the cherry on top of what has been a strong season for the Blues.

Celebrations will be kept to a minimum with focus now turning to the next trophy this Chelsea side could win. On Sunday, the Blues face recently crowned Spanish champions Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League final in Gothenburg.
