Qantas Socceroo striker John Aloisi looks to have got his wish of moving to a club that will play European football next season, with Greek heavyweights Panathinaikos reportedly signing him at the end of last week.

Aloisi (pictured right) came to the attention of many clubs following his four-goal haul at the Confederations Cup in Germany, which included doubles against the host country and Argentina. Aloisi proved to be the shining light for Australia at the Cup, in what was an otherwise disappointing campaign.

The 29-year-old was said to have signed a two-year deal with a one-year option.

He will leave former club Osasuna after four seasons with them in the Spanish Primera Liga, where he scored 28 goals in 120 appearances (league only). Aloisi rejected Osasuna-s initial offer of a contract renewal and his form at the Confederations Cup, where he is still leading goalscorer, saw his value rise considerably.

Aloisi said he wanted to play with a team that would play in either the Champions League or UEFA Cup and Panathinaikos will play in next season-s Champions League.
