After making her debut in 2021, proud South Australian representative, Charlotte “Charli” Grant has had a huge 2022, having to fill in for stalwart Ellie Carpenter due to her knee injury.
Charli’s footballing journey began with Cumberland United Women’s Football Club as a junior, where her talent was quickly identified and she was invited into Football South Australia’s National Training Centre Program in which she won the League’s top gong, the Shirley Brown Medal in her final year. Charli made her debut for her hometown club, Adelaide United at the tender age of 17 years old, with her break-out season coming in 2020/2021.
Grant was earmarked at a young age to star for her hometown club Adelaide United, making her A-League women's debut as a 17-year-old, helping push the previously unfancied United side into regular finals contention.
After an impressive 2020/21 campaign, the then 19-year-old was introduced into the CommBank Matildas squad, with Gustavsson showing his faith in the defender immediately, with early appearances against the United States, which then translated into further selection for the Asian Cup in India, just three months later.
The South Australian would use this exposure to push for a dream move to Scandinavia, signing with Swedish giants FC Rosengård, and linking with fellow Australian hero Teagan Micah, to form one of the league's more formidable defences.
Grant helped FC Rosengård claim their Swedish Women's Cup in her inaugural season at the club, before joining Vittsjö GIK on a mid-season loan, that became permanent in search of more football.
You’ll rarely see Charli without a smile on her face, with perhaps the most iconic image of her infectious grin coming during her maiden senior goal celebration during the side’s incredible 2-0 win against Euro Champions, England, ending their 30-game winning streak.
Off the pitch, Charli is well-known for always having a phone in her hand to produce TikTok videos during team camps, highlighting the friendships and comradery amongst the team that translates onto the field on game day.
