The Westfield Young Matildas have made a scorching start at the qualifiers for next year’s AFC under-19 Championships, crushing Hong Kong 6-0 in Hanoi on Wednesday evening.
Larissa Crummer got the Aussies off to the ideal start, scoring midway through the first half at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre.
It was almost two for Crummer nine minutes later as she found the back of the net again only for it to be ruled out for a tight offside call.
It mattered little though as they punished a tiring Hong Kong after the break scoring five unanswered goals in a devastating display of attacking football.
Amy Harrison doubled the lead just four minutes into the second half before Princess Ibini-isei, the younger sister of Sydney FC striker Bernie, made it 3-0 on 65 minutes.
It was four just eight minutes later as 16-year-old Emily Condon got her name on the scoresheet before Beatrice Goad, who only came on at half-time, scored twice in the space of seven minutes to complete the rout.
Ante Juric’s side sit second in the group following host nation Vietnam’s 11-0 demolition of Singapore in the other match on Wednesday.
The Westfield Young Matildas, who next take on Singapore on Friday, must top the group to qualify for next year’s AFC under-19 championships, which will be held in Nanjing in China, from August 19–30 August.
