World superstar named in Brazil squad for Aussie games

World superstar Marta has been named in Brazil’s squad for two games against the Westfield Matildas in September.

Brazil have shown their intent after a 6-1 loss to Australia at the recent Tournament of Nations naming a much stronger squad.

Orlando Pride’s Marta and her teammates Monica and Camila plus Cristiane and Barcelona’s Fabiana have all been named by coach Emily Lima in what looks a very strong, experienced squad.

Marta, 31, has often been referred to as the "female Pele" and is a multiple FIFA Women's Player of the Year and generally regarded as one of the greatest ever in the women's game.

Matildas fullback Caitlin Foord wins the ball in front of Brazilian superstar Marta.

Her inclusion as a finalist for The Best FIFA Women’s Player last year was the 12th time in the last 13 awards that she has been in the top three.

Brazil face the Westfield Matildas on September 16 in Penrith and three days later in Newcastle. Tickets have been selling very fast and with Marta now confirmed, demand will be even greater.
