Women’s World Cup 2015 tour to roll into Australia

The Westfield Matildas will get a firsthand glimpse of the prize they will be attempting to win when the FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy makes a two day stopover in Melbourne as part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015™ Live Your Goals tour.

The arrival to Australian shores of the biggest prize in women’s football forms part of a two day visit by FIFA to promote the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada and the ‘Live Your Goals’ campaign, one of FIFA’s most recognised initiatives in women’s football since it was launched at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The tour will comprise of a formal function at Crown Casino from midday on Saturday 14 February followed by a Live Your Goals festival on Sunday hosted by Football Federation Victoria (FFV) at Jubilee Park in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Speakers at the function on Saturday will include Westfield Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic, Football Federation Australia (FFA) Head of Community and Women’s Football Emma Highwood, FIFA Executive Committee Member, AFC Vice-President and FFA Board Member Moya Dodd as well as other FIFA delegates and sponsor and government representatives.

The best chance for fans to see and have photos with the FIFA Women’s World Cup Winners Trophy will be at the festival at Jubilee Park. The event will include fun, skill based sessions for young female players with FIFA Live Your Goals ambassadors, Westfield Matildas duo Steph Catley and Elise Kellond-Knight, as well as Westfield Matildas goalkeeper Brianna Davey.

As part of the festival, Westfield Matildas Coach Alen Stajcic will be the guest speaker at a free networking event targeted at coaches involved in the women’s game (click here for more information).

The FIFA ‘Live Your Goals’ campaign strives to create awareness and increase participation of girls and women in football and generate excitement about women’s football all over the world.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015™ Live Your Goals tour is visiting all member associations that have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 to build up the hype of the tournament, which kicks off in just over four months.

The Westfield Matildas have been drawn alongside World number one ranked USA, Nigeria and Sweden at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with their first match against the USA on Monday 8 June 2015, kick-off 6.30pm local time (Tuesday 9 June 2015, kick-off 9.30am AEST).
