Wilkshire and Oar released from Socceroos

Luke Wilkshire and Tommy Oar have both been released from the Socceroos squad for the upcoming friendly with Canada.

Luke Wilkshire and Tommy Oar have both been released from the Socceroos squad for the upcoming international friendly match against Canada.

Wilkshire, who missed the Socceroos match against Brazil with a knee injury, played 70 minutes against France on Friday night before being substituted.

After the match, Wilkshire was assessed by the Socceroos medical staff and in consultation with Acting Socceroos Head Coach Aurelio Vidmar, determined that as part of Wilkshire-s ongoing injury/load management of a longstanding injury would not be required to play against Canada on Tuesday night. As a result, Wilkshire has been allowed to return to his club, Dinamo Moscow, to continue his recovery process.

Tommy Oar failed a late fitness test prior the international friendly against France and was not included on the start list for the match. Oar has also been allowed return to his club, FC Utrecht, to continue his injury rehabilitation and to ensure that he is available for selection as soon as possible for his club.

No additional players will be added to the Socceroos squad at this time.

The international friendly match against Canada will be played at Craven Cottage, London on Tuesday 15 October at 8:00pm BST (6:00am AEDT, Wednesday 16 October).

This will be the ninth match between Canada and Australia.

The Socceroo match against Canada will be broadcast live and exclusive on FOX SPORTS.
