Westfield Young Matildas thrash Singapore

The Westfield Young Matildas have continued their hot form at the qualifiers for next year’s AFC under-19 Championships with an astonishing 19-0 win over Singapore in Hanoi.

Coach Ante Juric made a host of changes to the side which defeated Hong Kong 6-0 in their opening match with attacker Isabel Hodgson the only player to retain her place in the starting eleven.

But the new-look outfit came out firing with striker Sunny Franco netting a hat-trick inside half an hour with Jordan Baker and Alexandra Chidiac also finding the target in the opening period.

Brooke Goodrich extended the Young Matildas’ advantage in the 34 th minute before two more goals from Sunny Franco and another from Jordan Baker rounded out a dominant first half.

The Young Aussies started the second half as they finished the first with Beattie Goad making it 10-0 in the 50 th minute before Franco netted her sixth of the match in the 59 th minute.

Singapore compounded their woes with an own goal in the 68 th minute before Alex Chidiac completed her brace in the 70 th minute to make it 13-0.

Baker completed her hat-trick in the 72 nd minute before substitute Emily Condon joined the scoring onslaught just two minutes later.

Baker netted a fourth in the 80 th minute before Olivia Price scored a quick-fire brace in the 83 rd and 85 th minute to extend their advantage to 18-0.

Late substitute Amy Harrison rubbed salt into Singapore’s wounds with a goal in stoppage time to send the Young Matildas to the top of their group ahead of Vietnam on goal difference.

The Westfield Young Matildas must top the group to qualify for next year’s AFC under-19 championships, which will be held in Nanjing in China, from August 19–30 August.
