The Westfield Under 16 Women's team is the latest football team to take the international stage this week when they compete in the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) U16 Women's Championships (Qualification) tournament to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 8-17 November.

Coach Gary Phillips has selected a 23 player squad for the tournament which will see the Westfield U16 Women compete with eight other Southeast Asian countries.

“This qualification phase of the tournament is a wonderful opportunity for us,” said Phillips.

“These players have the potential to be our next Westfield Young Matildas and Matildas so it will be great to build their experience by competing at this level.

“It is an exciting time, both internationally and at home, with these girls having something to aspire to in the new Westfield W-League."

The top two teams of each group and the best third placed team between the two groups will automatically qualify for the AFC U-16 Women-s Championships 2009.

The Westfield U-16s leave Sydney this evening ahead of their first clash against Singapore on Saturday 8 November.
