Kerr does it yet again

Much like Tim Cahill always produced in the big moments so is Sam Kerr fast becoming the go-to person for club and country.

With the scores locked at 0-0 in last Thursday’s game against Canberra United, Glory were in desperate need of all three points to keep pace with Melbourne Victory at the top of the Westfield W-League ladder.

Enter Kerr.

The Westfield Matildas star drove into United’s penalty area and turned Young Matilda Karly Roestbakken inside out forcing, the 17-year old to bring Kerr down in the process.

Kerr made no mistake from the 12-yard spot and Glory were able to hold on for a crucial victory.

Ellie Carpenter also played the full 90 on the road for Canberra.

Ibini racks up another one

Australia’s future striking stocks are looking pretty good with 18-year old Sydney forward Princess Ibini notching up her fourth goal in seven games during her side’s 3-1 win over Newcastle Jets.

Ibini scored the crucial second goal, giving the Sky Blues a two-goal buffer before the Jets got one back shortly after.

Sofia Huerta sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal and Ibini was in the right place to stroke it home as Sydney kept pace in the race for the finals.

Foord the provider

Caitlin Foord is enjoying a productive Westfield W-League campaign, providing another assist against the Jets to bring her total up to three for the season.

Foord did well to keep a long ball in the field of play before taking it along the baseline and calmly delivering a measured cross which was duly dispatched by Savannah McCaskill.

Foord is now second only to the Kerr for chances created this year with 25 in eight appearances.

Alanna Kennedy and Chloe Logarzo  played the full 90 for Sydney while Lisa De Vanna came on in the 87th minute. Emily Van Egmond played the full match for the Jets.

So close Butt so far

With the scores level in the Melbourne Derby and with half-time fast approaching, Tameka Butt found the ball flying towards her with the goalmouth directly in front.

Taking a sweet first-time strike, the ball looked destined to make the net bulge before a last-gasp claw away by Victory goalkeeper Casey Dumont saved the day for the Navy Blues.

The Westfield Matildas midfielder was denied yet again in the 83rd minute when, clear through on goal, was thwarted by the rushing Dumont.

Laura Alleway and Emily Gielnik played the full 90 for Victory while Lydia Williams, Elise Kellond-Knight and Steph Catley were on the field for the duration for City.
