There were six goals scored by Westfield Matildas in Westfield W-League Round 8, and who else but Sam Kerr would lead the way?
Her brace cancelled out Alanna Kennedy’s incredible free-kick, giving Perth Glory all three points and catapulting them to the top of the ladder alongside Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar.

Michelle Heyman got her first goal in Adelaide United colours as the Reds downed Melbourne Victory 3-2, with Laura Alleway grabbing a goal of her own too.
Speaking of Melbourne, albeit the City variety, Kyah Simon grabbed Melbourne City's second goal in a 3-0 rout over Canberra United on Saturday afternoon.
While on Thursday night, Brisbane Roar were without one of their Westfield Matildas but still managed to beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1.
Kerr braces for impact
Sam Kerr has edged past Veronica Latsko in the Golden Boot race following her superb brace against Sydney FC on Friday afternoon.
Sydney FC had taken the lead thanks to a sublime Alanna Kennedy free-kick that bent into the top-left corner, but that was merely a precursor to the fireworks that were about to be let off.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Kerr leapt highest from a corner and produced a bullet header that flew past Aubrey Bledsoe.
And to make matters worse, she climbed over her Westfield Matildas teammate, Kennedy.
That goal seemed to rattle the visitors and sparked Perth into life.
And just after 84 minutes, Perth would have their just reward as Rachel Hill whipped in a delightful cross over Sydney FC’s Kennedy and Sofia Huerta.
Fans would by now know what happens next: Kerr climbed highest once more and headed the ball beyond Bledsoe once more. Not even the most drastic of efforts from Kennedy could steer the ball away from goal and prevent Perth from taking all three points.
It was another productive game for Kerr who would finish the game with six shots on goal, four of which were on target, and of course two goals.
Chloe Logarzo and Caitlin Foord both played the full 90 minutes, while Princess Ibini was replaced on 65 minutes for Lisa De Vanna.
Heyman revives that winning feeling
Michelle Heyman arrived at Adelaide United as the Westfield W-League’s highest goalscorer at a time when the Reds needed some experience up front.
As it turned out, they got more than they bargained for as Veronica Latsko, playing in the National Women’s Soccer League for Houston Dash, has chipped in with a handy seven goals to her name.
Heyman finally broke her duck though on Friday night, and what a time to do it, giving Adelaide United a 2-0 lead as they went on to win 3-2 at Marden Sports Complex.
And while that may have been the 30-year-old’s first goal in red, Heyman has two assists to her name as well as a dummy back in Round 5 which helped Georgia Campagnale salvage a draw against City.
On the other side of the divide, Laura Alleway grabbed Victory’s second in what turned out to be a consolation goal for the ladder leaders.
The defender found half a yard of space in the box and guided her header into the bottom-left corner, Sarah Willacy rooted to the spot.
Alleway’s teammate Emily Gielnik came off on 75 minutes for Lia Privitelli.
Simon in on the action as City romp Canberra
Kyah Simon continued her strong return from injury in the Westfield W-League with her second goal of the 2018/19 Season.
The 27-year-old made a darting run into the box and met Westfield Matildas teammate Tameka Butt's curling cross to head home. That would give City a 2-0 lead, before Rhali Dobson grabbed her second of the afternoon, and her side's third, on Melbourne's way to a 3-0 victory.
Simon would exit on the hour mark, while compatriots Elise Kellond-Knight, Tameka Butt and Lydia Williams would all play the 90 minutes.
Across the divide, Ellie Carpenter also played 90 minutes, registering a passing accuracy of 76%.
Polkinghorne and Arnold hold on for Roar
Clare Polkinghorne and Mackenzie Arnold played the full 90 minutes as their Brisbane Roar side defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1 on Thursday night.
The pair were without their midfield enforcer Katrina Gorry, who had copped a one-match ban following her red card in Round 7 against Melbourne Victory.
Despite Brisbane taking the early lead via a Western Sydney own goal, the Wanderers restored parity via Georgia Yeoman-Dale’s determination.
It wasn’t to be for the Wanderers though, as Polkinghorne and Arnold held on for a vital victory in their chase for a second successive Premiership.
