Westfield Matildas star joins Portland Thorns in NWSL

Westfield Matildas star Caitlin Foord has signed with Portland Thorns for the upcoming National Women’s Soccer League, the club confirmed overnight.

Portland acquired Foord in exchange for midfielder Allie Long, who has joined Seattle Reign.

Foord, currently plying her trade in the Westfield W-League with Sydney FC, links up with fellow Matildas attacker Hayley Raso at the 2017 NWSL Champions.

The 23-year-old previously spent three seasons in the USA with Sky Blue FC (2013-15) and made 46 appearances during that time.

“Caitlin is one of the most explosive and exciting players in the world,” Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons told the club's official website.

“She has the ability to create and finish in various ways. Her enthusiasm and tireless work rate on both sides of the ball will bring a new dimension to our team.”

The 2016 Asian Women’s Player of the Year has made 60 appearances for the Matildas, netting 11 goals.
