Westfield Matildas react to Ante Milicic's departure on social media

After the announcement that Ante Milicic has stepped down as Westfield Matildas' Head Coach, the players who have been led by him took to social media to express their gratitude.

During his tenure, Milicic guided the team at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 and successfully navigated the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers, as Australia secured a spot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Several players provided an insight into the impact of Ante Milicic, his assistant Ivan Jolic and analyst Kate Cohen over the past 18 months.

A recurring theme is Milicic’s dedication and commitment to leading the Westfield Matildas’ on the world stage.

Westfield Matildas captain Sam Kerr expressed her sentiments with a simple "thank you". 


Kerr's forwardline compatriot Hayley Raso took to Twitter to thank Milicic for the professional environment he helped create amongst the team.

Reusing ‘gutted’ to describe her emotions, Laura Brock spoke of her gratitude for everything she learnt during his tenure.

 

Elise Kellond-Knight emphasised Milicic’s contribution to her personal growth and setting up the Westfield Matildas for future success.  


Forward Emily Gielnik stated her appreciation for the environment of professionalism and belief.  


In a message on Twitter and Instagram, defender Alanna Kennedy spoke of the squad's growth under the former Socceroo's guidance.  

 

Kyah Simon, who returned to her best form during his managerial period, highlighted Milicic's passion and work ethic on behalf of the team. 

While Jenna McCormick, who was one of two players to debut under Milicic, shared her thoughts on the coach that made her international dreams come true. 

 

Caitlin Foord and goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold echoed the simple "thank you" message. 

 


Tameka Yallop spoke of the lessons Milicic, Jolic and Cohen provided.

On the back of the heartfelt words from his former charges, Milicic himself expressed his thoughts on his time with the Westfield Matildas.
