Westfield Matildas at Home: Melbourne City looking for Derby redemption

Westfield Matildas Jenna McCormick, Alex Chidiac and Teagan Micah may have had a day to forget during last weekend's 6-0 Melbourne Derby defeat, but they now face a unique chance for redemption seven days later.

Due to ongoing scheduling constraints, round four of the Westfield W-League will see local rivals in Sydney and Melbourne meet for the second time this season while Newcastle Jets face Brisbane Roar to close out the round.

Melbourne Victory stole the show in round three with a statement 6-0 triumph over reigning champions Melbourne City, with six different scorers finding the back of the net including Westfield Matildas legend Lisa De Vanna and 18-year-old talent Kyra Cooney-Cross.

One positive that emerged for City was the return of Alex Chidiac, who enjoyed a half-hour cameo which was her first appearance for the club since the 2015-16 season.

Rado Vidosic will be looking to his defensive unit, including McCormick and Micah, to tighten things up when the cross-town rivalry is reignited at Epping Stadium on Sunday.

As for Jeff Hopkins' side, the challenge now is for Victory to prove they are the real deal by stringing together a run of  consistent results.

Melbourne Derby

The other fixture kicking off at 6:40pm on Sunday will see Brisbane Roar travel to the Hunter to take on the Newcastle Jets.

Both sides will be eager to improve upon slow starts to the season, with Brisbane playing out three straight draws and the Jets suffering back-to-back defeats.

Westfield Matildas star Katrina Gorry impressed during Brisbane's 1-1 draw with Canberra United, scoring a stunning first-half curler to grant her side the lead.

Skipper Clare Polkinghorne has looked as solid as ever in the heart of a defence that has only conceded the one goal so far - an incredible 40-metre effort from Canberra United's Grace Maher.

After effectively marshalling in-form striker Michelle Heyman last week, Polkinghorne and the Brisbane backline will need to remain on their toes to combat the threat of Newcastle number 9 Tara Andrews, who has scored a goal per game so far this season.

Both Tameka Yallop and Emily Gielnik - who joined the Westfield W-League 100 club last week - have been a constant threat in the final third for Jake Goodship's outfit but remain on the lookout for their first goals of the campaign.

A huge three points are up for grabs at McDonald Jones Stadium with Brisbane needing a win to keep pace with the competition's early frontrunners against a Newcastle side that have proven they are a tough side to break down this season.
