Westfield Matildas name their toughest opponents
They've faced - and beaten - the top nations in the world and the Westfield Matildas have learned plenty from coming up against the game's very best.
We asked some of Australia's stars about their all-time toughest opponents.
KYAH SIMON
Oh! It's hard to single out just one. I think Kim Little, she plays in the Scottish National Team and she's a fantastic player. She's probably one of the best players I have played against.
Technically [she's very good], she's a goalscorer, she has a good football brain, great in tight spaces. She has really got the whole package. I think she encompasses a lot of what a great footballer is about.
MICHELLE HEYMAN
See, I love playing against Mini (Katrina Gorry), because we are roomies but we are on opposite teams constantly. When I play against her it's like we have this fight, we need to beat each other. It's a fun thing to have with one of your best friends and she's a brilliant player.
KATRINA GORRY
Probably Lauren Cheney from the United States or Aya Miyama from Japan.
I think technically and tactically they are probably the two best players I've come up against. Their positioning on the field, their technique, their awareness around the field, it's something I definitely want to strive for.
ALANNA KENNEDY
Cristiane when she was at her best for Brazil. I think she was a great striker, smart and strong.
HAYLEY RASO
I've always rated Homare Sawa from the Japanese national team. She has always been someone I thought was just an incredible player so I'll go with her.
The Japanese players, they are so technical. I played against her in a club tournament back when I played for Canberra United and noticed her then and ever since I've thought she's just a great, class player.
CLARE POLKINGHORNE
Probably Sawa from Japan, just really technically gifted and was an absolute legend of the game.
