WATCH: Arsenal snatch late equaliser; Lyon go down 2-1 to Juventus

Juventus came from behind to beat Lyon; while the Gunners snatched a late draw against Wolfsburg in London. Both sides have it all on the line in next week's second leg of the UWCL.

The first leg of the UWCL quarter-finals bought plenty of drama, a straight red card for Carpenter and a late equaliser for Arsenal makes next week's second leg all the more interesting.

In Turn, seven-time UWCL champions Lyon took on quarter-finals debutant Juventus.

Ellie Carpenter made the start for the French side, and played her part in Lyon's early opener, intercepting a pass from Juventus to send a cross to Selma Bacha who then found an unmarked Catarina Macario in the box to net the opener just seven minutes in.

A chance cleared off the line was the closest Lyon came to doubling their advantage before the half-time break.

Carpenter was in the thick of the action after the interval for all the wrong reasons, receiving a straight red card for a foul on Valentina Cernoia.

Lyon was down to 10 and Juventus quickly spirited a comeback, Cristiana Girelli scoring just nine minutes after Carpenter's dismissal.

Girelli was replaced by Agnese Bonfantini, who quickly found the go-ahead goal. Giving Juventus a historic 2-1 win in the first leg of the tie.

Carpenter's suspension will mean she will miss Lyon's second leg game, a must-win if Lyon wants to progress to the UWCL semi-finals.

Over in North London, Steph Catley was the only Aussie to feature for Arsenal, with Lydia Williams an unused substitute on the bench and Caitlin Foord not named in the matchday squad.

Arsenal showed some promising chances early through Beth Mead but it was the visitors that drew first blood, with Tabea Waßmuth finding the opener for Wolfsburg.

The Gunners had the ball in the back of the net just after the half-time break, with new signing Stina Blackstenius finding the equaliser. Her first goal in the UWCL for Arsenal was deemed offside, with Jonas Eidevall still in desperate need of an equaliser.

The goal would finally come in the 88th minute, Tobin Heath and Catley standing over a free kick in a dangerous spot, the American sent a low ball in that found Lotte Wubben-Moy unmarked who finished the attempt to level the scores.

Arsenal will now travel to Wolfsburg next week to play the second leg.
