Football Federation Australia(FFA) is greatly saddened to hear that former Qantas Socceroo Brian Joseph Turner passed away over the weekend.

Born on 29 March 1952 in New Lambton, Newcastle, Brian started his football career with New Lambton South 1967 .

His talent on the pitch did not go unseen as he received the Tottenham Hotspur Youth Scholarship in 1968, which allowed him to play for the Tottenham Hotspur youth team.

His most notable achievement there was winning the FA Youth Cup final against Coventry City in 1969-1970.

On return from a successful stint at Tottenham Hotspur, he returned to Australia and joined the Western Suburbs District Football Club where he won the 1971 Ampol Cup.

He made one appearance for the Qantas Socceroos, in a match against Israel in Melbourne on 21 November 1971 .

He continued his playing career with Sydney Croatia and fulfilled his desire of remaining involved with the game after his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Gaye Turner and his children, Aimee, Matthew and Adam Turner.

His memorial service will be held at 10.30am Thursday 3 June at Norwood Park Crematorium Mitchell Canberra

His family has requested for any donations to be made to the Oncology department, The Canberra Hospital.
