Unique stat shows fast-starting Raso can be Westfield Matildas' game-breaker

Hayley Raso has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past 12 months and a key stat has emerged that shows just how important the attacker could be for the Westfield Matildas.

The 23-year-old has already amassed an impressive 22 caps for the national team since debuting in 2012, scoring one goal in that time.

And while she hasn't yet found the net regularly at international level, the flyer has shown her eye for goal on the domestic stage in the Westfield W-League and the United States' National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

In fact, Raso set a unique goal-scoring record in both the recent Westfield W-League campaign with Brisbane Roar and the 2017 NWSL season with Portland Thorns.

She made 24 appearances for Portland last season and scored seven goals to help the Thorns claim their second-ever NWSL title.

The Aussie netted the opening goal of the match on four occasions, with no player scoring more throughout the season.

It's a precious skill she continued on her return to the Westfield W-League, where Raso opened the scoring on another four occasions - a mark bettered by no other player.

Those goals helped Roar to a brilliant premiership-winning campaign, making it two major trophies in the space of four months for the dynamic winger.

And she could well add another one to the cabinet next month if the Westfield Matildas are blessed with Raso's happy knack of breaking the deadlock at the AFC Women's Asian Cup.
