Transfer news: Westfield Matilda signs with German club

Westfield Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond has signed a deal to play with Bundesliga club Vfl Wolfsburg, the club announced overnight.

Van Egmond, 23, has inked a two-year deal with the German club, making the switch from rivals FFC Frankfurt.

"With Emily, we have a young all-rounder with an international class that has already gathered Bundesliga and Champions League experience obliged, coach Ralf Kellermann said on the club’s website.

“We get a player to that can help us in almost all positions in the offensive and defensive.”

The former Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers FC star has just competed at her first Olympics, a part of the Australian Women’s Football Team that played in Rio.

She has played 57 matches for the Westfield Matildas and has scored 14 goals.
