'Terrific' Chidiac on target in superb first Atletico Madrid start

Westfield Matildas midfielder Alex Chidiac has been hailed as a standout talent after scoring on her starting debut for Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

Chidiac, 19, opened her account in Liga Iberdrola with the final goal in a 6-0 rout of Logrono.

The playmaker turned home at close range in the 68th minute to cap an influential performance that included an assist for the home side's third during a commanding first half.

Atleti coach Jose Luis Sanchez Vera was effuse in his praise for the teenager, who has now featured in each of the team's two season-opening victories.

"She is a girl with terrific talent. Her level of adaptation is very fast," Sanchez Vera told the club website.

"Yesterday we spoke with her to see how she felt in the eleven and she is a player who plays the game very well.

"She is a different type of player and that does a lot of good to Liga Iberdrola."

Atleti will look to maintain their perfect start to the campaign in next weekend's trip to perennial contenders Athletic Bilbao.

That match could serve as Chidiac's final chance to catch Alen Stajcic's attention before Australia's dual friendlies against France and England in October.
