In a cruel blow for Caitlin Foord and Sydney FC, the star attacker has been ruled out of Sunday's Westfield W-League Grand Final due to injury.
Foord left the field in the first half of Saturday’s semi-final win over Newcastle Jets after sustaining an injury to her left ankle.
The Westfield Matildas star confirmed today on her Instagram account she has injured her ligaments and will undergo surgery on Tuesday.
The injury is a massive setback for the in-form Sky Blues ahead of their decider against two-time defending champions Melbourne City at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.
The 23-year-old has been in superb form for the Sky Blues and scored the opening goal in their thrilling 3-2 extra-time win over the Jets on Saturday.
Foord will begin her recovery immediately as she looks to get back to full fitness for the upcoming Algarve Cup and AFC Asian Cup campaigns for the Westfield Matildas.
