Westfield Matildas star commits to Brisbane Roar

Westfield Matildas playmaker Katrina Gorry is one of six homegrown stars to sign on for Brisbane Roar for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season.

Gorry has been a Roar stalwart for the last few seasons and returns for the defending Premiers for the new campaign.

The classy playmaker joins five other local players - Abbey Lloyd, Summer O'Brien, Natalie Tathem, Allira Toby and Kaitlyn Torpey - who signed on for the new season on Tuesday.

“There’s something special about this club and I always look forward to coming back home and being a part of this talented group,” Gorry said.

“I’m really excited to be putting the orange jersey back on for the season 11 of the Westfield W-League.

"I can’t wait for round one!"

Local talents Toby, Tathem and Torpey are products of NPL Queensland outfit Olympic FC, and have furthered their careers in Australia's elite female football competition in previous years.

Former Gap FC defender  O'Brien will return to the heart of Roar's backline, while Toowoomba junior Lloyd will once again be a threat for opposing defences in the upcoming season.

“This group of footballers all make a significant and important contribution to helping us achieve our goals that ultimately brings success," coach Mel Andreatta said.

“I’m delighted they’ve all committed their future to Roar Orange.”

The new Westfield W-League season begins later this month, with Roar opening the campaign at home against Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, 28 October.
