You know that football has come of age when a song to accompany the national team in their World Cup campaign is in the offing.

You know that football has come of age when a song to accompany the national team in their World Cup campaign is in the offing. Most nations these days take an official song with them to the World Cup. Some of the tunes over the years have become iconic, many have been dirges, but such ditties are now part of the fun that is the quadrennial festival of football.

“A Song for the Socceroos” will be a television series broadcasting on SBS TV starting later this month. Submissions closed on March 10 however for those that were not quite ready to record your demo by then, or indeed if you simply don-t have a musical note in your body, you can still participate by being part of the studio audience at the Demon-s Sports Club, Seven Hills in Sydney throughout March, April and May.

The series will be hosted by Julio Zemiro, while the panel of judges include: regular SBS football analyst and Australian rock legend Damien Lovelock, John Foreman plus several more throughout the series.
