Signing news: Chidiac commits to Atletico Madrid

Young midfielder Alex Chidiac will remain in Spain after inking a new contract with La Liga Feminina champions Atletico Madrid.

In a major show of faith by the Spanish giants, they have locked the 20-year-old Australian down for two more years, keeping her at the club until 2021.

"I am very happy that Atlético believes in me to extend my contract and be an integral part of this team," Chidiac said.

"Being part of a club with so much history and professionalism has given me an incredible first experience abroad."

The news will also be a major boost for Chidiac after she narrowly missed a spot in the Westfield Matildas 23-player squad for next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
