Sarah Hunter on having the belief and confidence to "stick it to the best" at World Cup

It's less than two weeks until the CommBank Young Matildas kick off their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022™ campaign and Sarah Hunter is excited to show that the young guns can "stick it to the best."

It's really exciting, it's come around so quickly," she said when asked about how she's feeling ahead of her first major international tournament.

"It took some time to sink in, how big it really was [to be selected for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022™]. It is such a major tournament, especially for women's football in Australia but on a personal level, I would be so proud to represent my country at a world cup."

Australia’s Group A schedule will see them open the tournament against hosts, Costa Rica (10 August), South American champions Brazil (13 August) and UEFA’s Spain (16 August).

Hunter says that while she and the team have great respect for the mighty footballing nations they will face, they believe that Australia has what it takes to match it with the best.

"We've been working hard on and off the pitch, working on specific tactics and narrowing down what we want to achieve," she explained.

"We're eager to show what we can do against the world's best. You have to go into these games with high expectations and the belief and confidence that you can stick it to the best.

"Obviously we are playing against teams that are massive in world football but we're putting in all the preparation and are excited to test ourselves against top nations and teams."
