Sam Kerr puts pen to paper on a book deal

Sam Kerr is many things. A record goalscorer in two domestic leagues, Westfield Matildas captain, Nike ambassador. She can now add author to her ever-growing CV.

The 27-year-old has signed a six-book deal with publisher Simon & Schuster Australia.

The children’s series will have its first two books dropped in the second half of 2021.

Kerr knows that she is an inspiration to the next generation of Westfield Matildas and Socceroos and can’t wait to inspire them on the page as she does on the pitch.

“Nothing makes me happier than to be recognised as a role model to a younger generation of Aussie kids,” Kerr said in a statement.

“Through these books, I hope to share some of my personal stories of growing up, of pushing boundaries and chasing my dreams. I can’t wait to bring the readers on this journey with me’."

Kerr is not the only Westfield Matilda to have her name emblazoned on books as well as jerseys.

Lydia Williams’ picture book Saved!!! was released last year and tells the story of a young girl called Lydia who grew up in the bush and discovered a passion for football.
