Ahead of the new Westfield W-League season, superstar striker Sam Kerr isn’t letting her latest accolade go to her head.
Kerr and the Westfield Matildas won two major awards at the Women’s Health magazine’s Women in Sport awards in Sydney on Wednesday night.
The WA-born 24-year-old was awarded Women's Health Sportswoman of the Year while the national team won the A-Team of the Year accolade, which was voted on by the public.
“It was awesome to be at the Women’s Heath Awards.
"The Matildas took out the team of the year award which was awesome, too,” Kerr, who plays for Perth Glory, told www.w-league.com.au.
“And I think the girls really deserved it.
"We all put in a lot of work to be where we are right now.
"Obviously to take out the sportswoman of the year award is an amazing honour, even just to be nominated alongside some amazing athletes, who were also up for the awards.
“It was a great night, all in all."
“Keep the support and love coming,” was Kerr's message to fans of the Matildas and W-League ahead of a busy month.
The league kicks off next week on Friday while the Westfield Matildas' next challenge is two games against China in Victoria next month.
“The girls really appreciate the support and we perform better when the whole of Australia is behind us," added Kerr.
“We felt the love over the last few months, So, keep it going...”
