Qantas Socceroos want win not draw

Coach Pim Verbeek says the Qantas Socceroos will go all out for a win despite needing just a point to secure World Cup qualification against Qatar on Sunday morning, Australian time.

DOHA, June 5 AAP - Coach Pim Verbeek says the Qantas Socceroos will go all out for a win despite needing just a point to secure World Cup qualification against Qatar on Sunday morning, Australian time.

A draw will be enough to seal a spot in South Africa next year but Verbeek said his side would not risk trying to play for a point at the Al Sadd Club in Doha.

"I don't think any team can play for a draw for 90 minutes," Verbeek said at the official pre-match press conference in Doha on Friday.

"As always, we come here to win the game and we're going to try to win the game to make sure we are there (the World Cup)."

Verbeek also warned his side could not underestimate Qatar, despite dominating their last three matches.

The teams met three times in qualifiers last year, with Australia scoring 10 goals and conceding just one in a hat trick of convincing wins.

"We did well against Qatar in the three games we've played them, which is an advantage of course because we know that win games like this," Verbeek said.

"But in every game we've had to work very, very hard to get the result and that's what we have to do tomorrow also."

Qatar need to win the match to keep their qualification hopes alive and will then have to beat Japan in their final match to have any hope of finishing third.

The Australian squad held its final training session at the match venue on Friday afternoon shortly after arriving in the Qatari capital following week-long preparations in Dubai.

Temperatures are expected to reach 42 degrees on Saturday but should cool significantly by the time the match kicks of at 7.00pm local time (0200 Sun AEST).

"As always we are 100 per cent prepared for the game," Verbeek said.

"But we have to go out and finish it off tomorrow."
