Pararoos Head Coach Paul Brown has named a 14-player squad to compete at the CPISRA Intercontinental Cup which will be held from 27 July to 10 August at Sant Cugat Del Vallès, Spain.
Pararoos Head Coach Paul Brown has named a 14-player squad to compete at the CPISRA Intercontinental Cup which will be held from 27 July to 10 August at Sant Cugat Del Vallès, Spain.
The Pararoos squad will once again be led by veteran defender David Barber, with Chris Pyne as the Vice-Captain. Jarrod Larkins-Law and Beau Menzies both return to the squad after varying periods of absence.
This will be the first tournament for the Pararoos this year and Brown is looking forward to testing his team against quality international opposition.
"This is the first stage of our campaign to qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games and we have a good mix of experienced and younger players for the challenge ahead,” said Brown
"The players that have been selected are those that have physical ability with their disability, but also the mental ability, to get the job done.
"We have something to prove, and my players love a challenge. We have always set our goals high and we will not stop until we get there,” concluded Brown.
The Intercontinental Cup is organised by the Federación Española de Deportes Paraliticos Cerebrales (FEDPC) and Federació Esportiva Catalana de Paralítics Cerebrals (FECPC), under the supervision of CPISRA and is aimed at athletes people with mild cerebral palsy, affected for hemiplegia, acquired brain injury or other balance injuries, coordination or motor. The athletes must be able to move under its own powers.
The championship involves 320 athletes hailing from 16 different countries throughout the world, all competing in order to qualify for the World Cup 7 for people with cerebral palsy, which will be held in 2015. The participating teams are those nationally selected from Netherlands, Canada, Scotland, Ukraine, Russia, Spain, Argentina, Northern Ireland, Venezuela, Portugal, Japan, England, Brazil, Australia, United States and Ireland.
