Only focus is on beating Qatar says Kewell

Harry Kewell says the Qantas Socceroos are only focused on beating Qatar to secure World Cup qualification, and not how good they look in the process.

DUBAI, June 2 AAP - Harry Kewell says the Qantas Socceroos are only focused on beating Qatar to secure World Cup qualification, and not how good they look in the process.

Australia head into Sunday morning's (AEST) match needing just a point to officially seal their spot in South Africa, with home games against Bahrain and Japan also to come this month.

And while the Qantas Socceroos have come under some criticism for their style of football in recent games, Kewell says they won't be focused on playing attractive football in Doha.

"We have had a lot of stick over these qualifying rounds over the way we have performed," Kewell said.

"But sometimes it's all about just getting the job done and once you are there you can concentrate on the World Cup from there.

"So if we go out on the weekend and play a solid defence and get that scrappy goal, we will take that now."

The bulk of the Australian squad has been in camp in Dubai since Sunday, acclimatising to the heat in the Middle East with temperatures rising to over 40 degrees.

Everton star Tim Cahill and Norwegian-based defender Shane Stefanutto arrive on Wednesday morning to complete the extended squad.

Cahill, who played in Everton's 2-1 FA Cup final loss to Chelsea on Saturday, is battling a hip injury and unlikely to play in the match.

The squad was put through an hour-long session at their Dubai training base on Tuesday evening with several players, including Mark Bresciano, Bruce Djite and Mile Jedinak restricted to only light duties.
