Neill receives post-match honour

Qantas Socceroos captain Lucas Neill has been honoured at a team dinner, following the team’s loss to Scotland.

Qantas Socceroos captain Lucas Neill has been honoured at a team dinner, following the team-s loss to Scotland.

At the post-match function, Neill was presented with a framed poster, commemorating some of the most significant moments to occur during his 50 games leading the national team.

The moments included the following:

First match as captain against Paraguay in Brisbane (07-10-06 ) First match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Germany (13-06-10) Second match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Ghana (19-06-10) Final of the AFC Asian Cup 2011 against Japan (29-01-11) 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier against Japan in Brisbane (12-06-12)

Neill was honoured to receive the award and be just 10 games away from being the Socceroos- most prolific captain, chasing down Peter Wilson, who captained the team an amazing 60 times.

“It-s a special night for me, one that makes me very proud, and there are a lot of great memories in those 50 games as captain,” Neill said.

“They are very fond times and I-m not done yet, I-m in a list of some very, very well known names in the history of Australian football.”
