Moyes keen to keep Cahill

Everton manager David Moyes has shot down rumours that Qantas Socceroo Tim Cahill will be making a move to the Middle East.

Everton manager David Moyes says he is keen to keep the Qantas Socceroo as an integral part of the club for the immediate future, squashing rumours that Saudi club Al Nasr were set to the serial goal-poacher.

Cahill had been linked with a move to the super-rich Middle East club, after reports surfaced claiming they were ready to boost their global profile by signing the Australian international.

But Moyes moved quickly to refute those plans, despite the fact the Aussie was rested and started more matches on the bench than is normal for him in the latest Barclays Premier League season.

“He-s fit, he-s athletic, he can do several jobs for us,” said Moyes, speaking before the end of the season, prior to leaving Cahill on the bench for the final game of the season, a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

“There-s been a couple of games where we-ve been able to change and rest him because we-ve had a fully fit squad.

“But Tim-s been the mainstay of the way we-ve played.

“There-ll be a time when we have to move on and that will evolve, but not at the moment.

“I think he-s still got a two or three-year contract and he-ll still be a big part of what we do.”
