The Qantas Young Socceroos kicked off the Terborg Toernooi with a win and a loss in their two games overnight in Terborg, Netherlands.

The first game of the tournament saw the Australians take on Spanish giants Valencia, with the Spanish team winning 1-0. In the second game, Australia beat Feyenoord 2-0 with goals from Aaron Mooy and Mitch Nichols.

The tournament is a major youth tournament in Europe with many of the largest clubs in Europe participating. Each team plays two games per day, with each match lasting for 2 x 20 minute halves.

It was a tight contest between Australia and Valencia, with the winning goal coming in the 16th minute, when a corner was played to the top of the box and the shot took a deflection off another Valencia player on the way through and giving Andrew Redmayne no chance.

Australia-s best chance of an equaliser came in the 25th minute, when a free kick rebounded out to Daniel Mullen, whose shot was tipped over the bar by the Valencia keeper.

The second match against Feyenoord was just as even, with both goals not coming until the final 10 minutes.

Mooy started and finished the opening goal, his beautiful switch of play releasing Visconte down the left to the edge of the box. Visconte crossed to Kofi Danning who knocked it down for Mooy, whose left foot shot into the top corner gave the Feyenoord keeper no chance.

Within a minute, it was almost level, Australia saved by the right post and three minutes later they wrapped up the match when Tahj Minniecon played in Nichols who made no mistake.

Today's games see Australia play Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro and then Dutch side De Graafschap. The finals will be held on Sunday.
