Qantas Socceroo striker Scott McDonald has been named as one of four players in contention for the PFA Scottish Player of the Year award.

McDonald, along with his Celtic team mates, Aiden McGeady and Barry Robson, plus Rangers Carlos Cuellar are the four players in line for the award. Players will now cast their vote for the top player, with the winner to be announced on April 20 at a gala dinner in Glasgow.

McDonald has enjoyed a stellar season for Celtic after his arrival from Motherwell in the last off-season. He has netted 20 goals in the Scottish Premier League, six ahead of his nearest rival, plus he has scored a further six goals in Cup competitions, including two goals in the UEFA Champions League.

This form has seen him become a key player for the Socceroos in the current World Cup qualifying campaign, although injury ruled him out of the last match against China.

The big surprise of the of the nominated four was that Celtic had three players compared to Rangers one, with Rangers well clear at the top of the table.

McDonald will be hoping to emulate Mark Viduka, who won this award, after he too had a stellar season with Celtic back in 1999-2000, notching 27 goals in leading Celtic to the title.
