Matildas Abroad Preview: West Coast Derby in the NWSL; Rosengård aim to extend their unbeaten streak

A West Coast Derby in the NWSL will see San Diego aim to keep their spot as first on the table; while Rosengård will be trying to extend their unbeaten streak to fourteen games.

Kicking off in the USA, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville will host Angel City for the first time ever, welcoming the NWSL newcomers to Kentucky.

Louisville will be aiming to bounce back from their second defeat of the season against Angel City, going down 3-0 to the North Carolina Courage last weekend.

Meanwhile, their opponents are coming into the game off a 0-0 midweek draw with Houston Dash. Angel City sit just outside the top four on 10 points, while Racing is in ninth place just 2 points behind them.

Moving over to Kansas, Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current will host NJ/NY Gotham FC as they look for their second win of the season. 

Logarzo has yet to make an appearance this season, still recovering from an ACL injury, with the midfielder giving Matildas fans an update on her progress throughout the week.

Our last stop in the USA takes us to San Diego, where Emily van Egmond's first-placed San Diego Wave FC will host OL Reign. 

Wave FC has only faced two defeats in their inaugural NWSL season, with OL the last side to hand them a defeat when they beat San Diego 1-0. 


Van Egmond's side came from behind to draw 2-2 against the Portland Thorns throughout the week and will be aiming to get redemption over their West Coast rivals.

Moving over to Sweden, Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry's Vittsjö GIK will be searching for their seventh win of the season against BK Häcken.

Vittsjö sits just three points behind Häcken on the ladder, Polkinghorne and Gorry's side faced their second defeat of the season throughout the week when they went down 2-0 to Kristianstads DFF.

Over in Malmö, Teagan Micah and Charli Grant's FC Rosengård take on twelfth placed Umeå. 

Rosengård is aiming to extend their unbeaten streak and keep their spot at the top of the table against a Umeå side that has only recorded two wins. 

Grant scored her first goal for Rosengård throughout the week, scoring in their 6-0 win.

Journey to 2023 - Thin Banner


In Stockholm, Courtney Nevin and Kyra Cooney-Cross' Hammarby will host IFK Kalmar. Hammarby come into the game off a 1-0 win, while their opposition faced a 6-0 defeat throughout the week. 


Nevin has featured in all games for Hammarby since making her debut, scoring three goals in the process. While Cooney-Cross is yet to debut, appearing on the bench for the first time in their midweek week.

The last game in Sweden will see Remy Siemsen's AIK take on second-place Linköpings FC. AIK collected just their second win of the season throughout the week, beating Piteå 1-0.
