Matildas Abroad: Kyah Simon scores in first PSV friendly

In another week of action for our Westfield Matildas in Europe, Kyah Simon scored PSV’s first friendly goal while Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry got that winning feeling back.

Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry’s Avaldsnes IL kicked off Round 6 of the Toppserien with a 1-0 win against Røa. Polkinghorne once again started and played the full 90 minutes, with Gorry playing the first hour.

Elsewhere, two Westfield Matildas youngsters – Karly Røestbakken of LSK Kvinner and Teagan Micah of Arna-Bjørnar – faced off with LSK Kvinner ultimately coming out winners, claiming a 2-1 victory and securing their position on top of the Toppserien leader-board.

In Round 9 of the Damallsvenskan, Emily Gielnik’s Vittsjö went down 0-3 against Umeå. Gielnik came on as a substitute for the final 28 minutes of the match, making this the lengthiest appearance for her Swedish side so far.

Kyah Simon was amongst the action for PSV Eindhoven as she and fellow Westfield Matildas team-mate Amy Harrison played in the club’s first scheduled friendly against RSC Anderlecht. Simon scored the opening goal in a 2-0 victory.

Ellie Carpenter travelled with Olympique Lyonnais to the Coupe de France Féminine final, but did not make an appearance as OL took home their tenth title against Paris Saint-Germain. The sides were forced into a penalty shootout to break the 0-0 dead-lock at full-time, with Lyon winning 4-3.

Over in England, Arsenal continued their season preparations with a friendly against Charlton Athletic with Caitlin Foord in among the action once again.
