Kerr's record-breaking hat-trick in NWSL

Westfield Matildas striker Sam Kerr has become the all-time leading scorer in America’s National Women's Soccer League history after an incredible hat-trick for Sky Blue FC over the weekend.

Kerr’s treble took her all-time tally in the NWSL to 34 goals to move ahead of Jessica McDonald (33) and Kim Little (32).

And the 23-year-old did it in style, scoring her hat-trick in just 12 minutes to turn a two-goal deficit for her side into a 3-2 win over Kansas City.

Kerr has been on fire in the NWSL this season, taking out the prestigious Player of the Month award for both May and June.

The first of her goals on Saturday was a pinpoint diving header on 78 minutes, before backing that up with a sweet first-time finish into the bottom corner just three minutes later.

She then put her name into the record books in the final minute, racing through on goal, holding off a defender before slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 3-2.

Kerr’s hat-trick takes her season tally to nine goals, while she has also provided three assists for the third-placed Sky Blue FC.
