Kerr shortlisted for second straight AFC Women's Player of the Year award

Westfield Matildas superstar Sam Kerr is in contention to claim back-to-back AFC Women's Player of the Year awards as one of three players nominated for the 2018 prize.

Kerr, 25, is bidding to become just the second woman to defend Asian football's top individual honour.

The striker inherited the accolade from international team-mate Caitlin Foord following a sensational 2017 and has enjoyed another excellent 12 months.

She helped the Westfield Matildas to second place at the AFC Women's Asian Cup and scooped the Golden Boot in both the Westfield W-League and the National Women's Soccer League.

Japan captain Saki Kumagai and China PR's Wang Shuang are the players rivalling Kerr for the award.

The winner will be announced at the AFC Annual Awards in Oman on November 28.
