Kerr rewarded for stunning form in USA

For the second time in as many months, Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr has been named as the player of the month in America’s National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

The 23-year-old is just the second player in the league’s history to be voted the best in consecutive months after she backed up a stellar May with more eye-catching performances for Sky Blue FC in June.

Melbourne City’s Welsh wizard Kim Little is the only other player to be voted – by the NWSL Media Association – as the best in successive months.

Kerr took out the award after scoring three goals and having one assist during June.

Her fantastic tally included her spectacular bicycle kick in Sky Blue FC’s loss to Orlando Pride last week.

Kerr’s brilliance went viral after she wriggled free of her defender inside the box and launched herself at a loose ball, burying an acrobatic effort past Pride keeper Aubrey Bledsoe.

Kerr has scored 31 goals in the NWSL to sit just one behind the competition’s all-time leading scorer Jessica McDonald of the North Carolina Courage.

Kerr and her Sky Blue FC teammates will next be in action this weekend when they host FC Kansas City at Yurcak Field.
