Kerr nominated for international award

Westfield Matildas striker Sam Kerr is in line to win another accolade after being nominated for two awards at the 2018 ESPYS.

The ESPYS – Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly – is an award presented by US network ABC which recognises individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance.

Kerr, who plays for Chicago Red Stars in America’s National Women’s Soccer League, Kerr has been nominated for Best International Women’s Soccer Player and Best NWSL Player.

The nomination comes after a record-breaking campaign in the NWSL in 2017, with her former club Sky Blue FC.

During the season she set a new NWSL record for goals, scoring 17 in a single season, on the way to taking out the MVP Award for the league.

Since moving to Chicago in 2018, Kerr has scored five goals to sit in second spot on the Golden Boot standings.

Kerr is coming off a huge 2017 which saw her win a swag of awards and gain global recognition.

She was named the AFC Women’s Football of the Year, as well as taking out the Julie Dolan Medal as the Westfield W-League’s best and was also named Young Australian of the Year.

Kerr was also ABS Sports Personality of the year and was a finalist for the FIFA Female Player of the Year.

The ESPYS will be held on July 19 (AEST).
