Kerr named among the world's best at inaugural Women’s Ballon d’Or

Westfield Matilda superstar Sam Kerr has finished fifth in the inaugural Women’s Ballon d’Or after Ada Hegerberg took out the honour.

The awards are an annual event presented by France Football, but 2018 was the first instalment that included a Women's version.

The 25-year-old was nominated off the back of her stellar 2018, which saw her win the Golden Boot in the Westfield W-League and National Women's Soccer League.

Kerr scored 13 goals and grabbed 3 assists with Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League 2017/18 Season, before registering 16 goals and four assists for Chicago Red Stars.

That was her second successive Golden Boot in the United States, making her the first ever player to win it back-to-back.

Her form continued with the Westfield Matildas, helping Alen Stajcic’s side to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup final.

Overall, Kerr scored 8 goals in 19 appearances for the Westfield Matildas this calendar year.
