Qantas Socceroo Joshua Kennedy has begun life back in the Bundesliga in the worst possible fashion, suffering an Achilles Tendon injury with his new club Nurnberg FC.

Kennedy was at his first training session with the German Division One side, since he arrived back from a short holiday in Australia following the World Cup, when he ruptured his Achilles and now faces surgery and several months on the sidelines.

The 23-year old was one of the finds of the World Cup for Australia, where he made two substitute appearances and proved a handful each time he came on. His height and surprising skills on the ball, have earmarked him as an international player of the future for the Socceroos and his return to the Bundesliga was not only going to benefit him, but the national team as well.

He last played in the Bundesliga in his first season at VfL Wolfsburg as a fresh-faced 17-year old in 2000-01 season, before he went on loan spells to lower division clubs Stuttgart Kickers and FC Koln. He has played the last two season with Dynamo Dresden in the Bundesliga 2, but was snapped up by Nurnberg in January after impressive performances.

Kennedy will be joined at Nurnberg by fellow Qantas Socceroo Michael Beauchamp and also Beauchamp-s former Central Coast Mariners teammate Dean Heffernan.

Meanwhile, Brett Holman will get his chance to finally play for Feyenoord after spending three seasons at feeder club Excelsior. Holman-s form was one of the main reasons why Excelsior won the Dutch 2nd Division title and promotion back to the Eredivisie, with Feyenoord deciding to end Holman-s three-year loan spell and give him the chance to shine at the De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam.

In England, Patrick Kisnorbo has accepted a new contract by Leicester City, just one season into career at the club. He will be at the club until the end of the 2008-09 season and was humbled by the offer after just the one season at the club.

His signing follows on from fellow Australian and club captain Danny Tiatto, agreeing to extend his stay at the club by a further year.

UEFA Intertoto Cup action saw several Australian-s in action, with defender Stephen Laybutt playing a full game for AA Gent in a 2-1 away defeat at Swiss club Grasshoppers, while Shane Stefanutto played a full game and Kasey Wehrman came on as a second half substitute, as Lillestrom earned a creditable 1-1 away draw at a Craig Moore-less Newcastle United. The return leg-s will be played next weekend.
