Sam Kerr continues to make waves in world football after the Westfield Matildas striker was again nominated for the FIFA Best Award for Women’s Player of the Year.
It’s the second straight year the 24-year-old has made the shortlist for the prestigious award and is a further endorsement of her amazing performances on the world stage.

The other players nominated include Lucy Bronze, Pernille Harder, Ada Hegerberg, Amandine Henry, Saki Kumagai, Dzsenifer Marozsan, Marta, Megan Rapinoe and Wendie Renard.
The award takes in what Kerr has achieved for club and country from the period of August 7 last year, until May 24 of 2018.

While 2017 was Kerr’s breakout year, she’s backed it up again for the past 12 months – and in some cases gone to another level.
Her record for the Westfield Matildas is phenomenal.
In 14 matches dating back to last August, Kerr scored an astonishing 12 goals.
Her most important came at April’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup, with her late strike in the group game against Japan booking the Westfield Matildas’ berth at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in France.
She sent the Australian crowds into a frenzy during the home friendlies against Brazil and China at the end of last year, scoring seven goals in those four matches (all wins), becoming a household name around the country in the process.

Kerr backed up those eye-catching displays for her country in club football, both in the Westfield W-League and America’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
The pacy striker made it back-to-back Julie Dolan Medals as the Westfield W-League’s best in 2017/18, thanks mainly to her 13 goals, which saw her end the campaign with the golden boot.
She achieved a similar feat in the NWSL this time last year, tallying a league-record 17 goals for the season, while she’s on track to finish top of the pile again this year with Chicago Red Stars.
Her recent hat-trick against Sky Blue FC made her the first player to reach 50 NWSL goals and the first to hit three hat-tricks in the competition.
On a personal level, she has won the AFC Women’s Player of the Year, Professional Footballer’s Australia’s top honour, as well as recently winning the ESPY award for Best International Women's Soccer Player.
And you wouldn’t bet against Kerr adding another award to her growing trophy cabinet as FIFA’s Best Women’s Player of 2018.
